    Shading Problem

I have a file that was exported from 3d Max as an object file that i am working on in Maya. On some of the surfaces it won't allow my to apply shaders that I have mapped 2d texures to. For instance I will map a grid to shader and it won't show up. Pretty much any of the maps under the 2d section will not show up when I apply them to these surfaces. All of the surfaces from this file are polygons. I have tried to convert the surfaces from polygons to sudivided surfaces and the back to polygons and it distorts the orginal model. If anyone could help me with this problem I'd really appreciate it.

Sounds like maybe your UVs got wiped out in the conversion, i'd check and make sure your mapping is still good.

What can I do to check and see if they have been wiped out? Is there a way to fix that problem?

Select the object and go Windows > UV Texture Editor. If you see nothing or a big mess, you probably need to redo your texture projections.
