If you use JPEG, noone will have any trouble, and it will be faster also

About the image, are you sure you posted the right image?
I can't see what this has to do with 3ds max?
If you want to design a logo like in this image, you can better use vector based imaging, so you won't get all the anti-aliasing.

    You must study

Ok, i don´t understan well the problem, but i'm going to try to help you

maybe you can make a 2 lines shape (you know make one rectangle and unselect start new shape and make the other), convert to spline and adjust the vertex, then extrude.

and with the circles make 4 spheres.

i didn´t understand what you say about the edges but you can control the number of segments of the spheres

just to finish, try to give you a time to read the tutorials that come with Max.

    solutions

    Ok, posible solutions:

solution 1 make more vertex before extrude

solution 2 wHEN CREATINGthe rectangles use the corner radius

solution 3 Dont use meshsmooth use tessellate

    solution 4 Use loft.

    solution 5 use a Torus

solution 6 Learn 3D studio (this aply in all cases)
