You can export static meshes from UnrealEd by placing one in a balnk map and then going to File->Export and choosing .obj as the file format.

Yes. That is the only way to get the editor and therefore use it to export models from.

There is a version you can download called the UnrealEngine Runtime, but it won't export to .obj. Only the UT2003 and UT2004 editors export to .obj as far as I know. It will probably export to .t3d and maybe some other formats, but I don't know that it will help you for what you want to do.

    Thumbs down Warning message

Im using maya 7 unlimited with Maya 7 ActorX tool
when i export it in the ActorX tool box it first says-

Note: Unsmooth groups prossesing: [0[ vertices added

    The another message comes up-

Warning: No valide skin triangles digested (Mesh may lack proper mapping or valid linkups)

Then it saves but when i go to the place a saved it theres nothing there

I understand the first message is perfectly normal and that
i need a Joint to export.

I have tried triangulating my mesh but it still wont export

also i was hopeing i could export my model as a .USX
    (I exporting a mesh not a animation)

Does anyone know a exporter for this?

The first message is perfectly normal as you said. The second message is saying that the exporter is looking for the mesh to be bound to a skeletal hiearchy and it is not. This is because you are using the skeletal mesh exporter to try to export a static mesh. To export static meshes with ActorX, you should type axmesh; in the command line to open the static mesh exporter. This is explained on the Static Meshes from Maya page on the UDN

So, If I went and bought a copy of Unreal Tournament 2004 I could use Maya PLE 7.0.1 and get the models out of the mp. format. Also, Is there only one version of Unreal 2004 around (IE should I be careful to not buy a wierd cut down version that doesn't have the editor?

I would get the 2 disk dvd edition. That way you get a bunch of 3dbuzz videos as well.

Just found the hitch in my plan. You cant get UT2004 anymore. It was discontinued a while back.
