Visual Studio 2015 Community Update 1

Recently Microsoft updated Visual Studio 2015 Community to Update 1.
They are really pushing diverse platforms now and the install options are rather extensive as is the time it takes to install now.

I have a feeling this is going to have some interesting effects with our MS Deploy scripts later on in chapter 10 as the versions are now different from following along with the videos. It might actually become prudent to install Visual studio on our TeamCity servers simply because it's now free unlike when Nelson did the original video series. I had some problems with the both old and new versions of msdeploy. Others might have more success.

I started over on chapter 10 as well this week. I found that when you create the asp mvc website it throws owin in on you as well. It took some doing to get it down to as bare bones as when Nelson first starts his up. Including uninstalling some nuget packages that are automagically installed. Simply removing the owin references weren't enough. You'll get build errors that say you need an owin enabled app start. Fwiw

I think your problem was that you created the wrong sort of web project.
Here's the steps to make the empty one like Nelson's:
    These are the first steps:
Add --> New Project --> Web --> ASP.NET Web Application
Then type in BuzzMMO.Web and click OK.
Then click on the "Empty" icon and tick the MVC box. Untick "Host in the cloud" and finally click OK.
You might have selected "MVC" instead of "Empty".

Ah, yes. That's probably it! Details... Details... Haha! I've learned my lesson though. Was a ton of work to get it back down to a starting point. Next time around, I'll make sure I use the empty project! As for now, I'll go kick myself once or twice.
