    Unity project - theHub

    hey all,

My name is Allan, I'm in my final year of a Game Design degree at Swinburne Uni in Melbourne, Vic, Australia. And i need some help with my project...

    http://thehub.awinteractive.net/

The project is called "the HUB" in short as it stands is a prototype world for a future project. building on features and other things that we would like to work on after Uni.
This is also demonstrating the skills and abilities that my team possess in using the Unity3d engine for potential clients or employers.

We have chosen a Theme Park style environment as our testing platform, due to a lot of the features that are more or less represented with in the theme.

As a part of the project im after willing helpers to leave feedback for on going usability testing. I am looking for any suggestions for new content, good/bad remarks of whats already in the world, anything that will help further development.

Each week i will updating the project for people to try out.

AND YES YOUR CAN RIDE THE FERRIS WHEEL!!!

So the Ferris Wheel was great. It's interesting seeing the landscape from a higher angle while in game, and I think it provides a unique perspective. I didn't try to interact with any of the NPCs; could I have talked to them?

You seem to have a solid start, but since you wanted feedback:

I know it's part of the testing, but I think the light/dark cycle was too fast. Also the dark was too dark; I couldn't really see much. You have to compensate with low key lightning - like lanterns, ambient light from the fire, a big moon etc.

I had several issues with the controller. The first thing I did was jump into the water, and it was really hard getting him to go straight to the shore. Steering left or right seemed to overturn, so that precision was difficult. I had to exit the game after going to the ferris wheel. I pressed E and boarded, but on board, turning (but not jumping) was locked, so that I couldn't reach the button and descend. You may want to lock all movement on board, except camera (and E for getting off), so that there won't be any jumping off or collision problems.

Keep at it! I'm looking forward to the next update

downside to a uni project, its always more paper work then productive work. well at my Uni at lest.

which includes usability testing for prototypes.

I agree with Methanol, the day/night cycyle was too fast and the dark was too dark lol. And the character controller was kinda hard to control. Also, one of the NPC by the "No Tress passing" gate area didn't have a target ring on him. And when I moved the character towards where the boat is it went completely dark(idk if it was intended).

Also, just a small tip, adding halo to the lights will make em look realistic.

Anyways, nice Ferris wheel ride keep it up

I thought the 3D GUIs looked really good. Although the characters did not respond, they also looked really good. The style is consistent and the ground textures and trees are cohesive. I felt the urge to explore the limits of the world to see if I could get past the mountains or the wall. I really wanted to get on the boat since I could not manipulate the ferris wheel to get a ride. I think it should just stop when I'm there and allow me to board like in Halo. As a mattor of fact now that I think of it, it kind of reminds me of that since I experienced day and night in such a short period of time without anything to significant to mark the changes. Lot still to do tho.
