Cool MAYA VTM ISSUE #2 is COMPLETE!

    Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that Issue #2 of the Maya VTM is complete. Running Time - 5 HOURS! So smile really big – as always, it is FREE.

Shipping begins tomorrow (Tuesday) - as always, shipping will follow our standard shipping priority list (see the FAQ section)

Here is a rundown of the content:

    Student Introductions
The students are different this time. I used 90% of the students in my current Maya I12 program. We had a total of 8 mics! I also managed to put a couple of students on the spot by having them perform a little modeling - live - while recording – and without prior warning.

    Basic NURBS Curves
    Talked about:
    The Components of a Curve
    CV Curve Tool
    EP Curve Tool
    Pencil Curve Tool
    Rebuilding Curves

    Basic NURBS Surfaces
    Talked about:
How to use Curves to construct surfaces
    Revolve
    Loft
    Getting seams out
Students modeled a couple of things

    SetDriven Key (SDK)
    Talked about:
    Overview of SDK
    Setting up reactive relationships
    Drivers and Drivens
Using the Graph Editor to modify relationships
    Several examples

    Custom Attributes
    What custom attributes are
    How to add custom attributes
How to modify a custom attribute
    Deleting custom attributes
I create a very basic HAND out of joints and then use a combination of custom attributes and SDK to rig it.

    Clusters and Weighting
    What are clusters
    Adding points to a cluster
    What is weighting
Using the Component Editor to weight points (interactively and numerically)

    Cannon Exercise
    Create a stylized cartoon-like cannon
Rig the cannon for animation using clusters and SDK – it supports anticipation and exaggeration.
    Animate the cannon
Create a sphere for the cannon to shoot out and a surrounding set.

Small talk about Rigid Bodies (active and passive) - Dynamics
Set the ball up so that it gets shot from the cannon and responds properly to a wall and the floor (which are all rigid bodies)

    Basic Lighting
    VERY BASIC section.
A quick introduction to the Spot Light and the Point Light.
    Intensity
    A light’s Color
How to look through a light
A quick talk about Depth Map Shadows
    Tweaking Dmap Shadows
An introduction to the IPR (Interactive Photorealistic Renderer) - We use the IPR for getting real-time feedback while tweaking the lights and shadows.

    Basic Materials
    VERY BASIC section.
A closer look at the Hypershade and creating node networks.
    We talk about:
    Blend Node utilities
    Bump Maps
    Diffuse Attribute
    Specularity
The Connection Editor for making connections

    Rendering Overview
    VERY BASIC section.
A quick look at how to setup for Batch Rendering.
Render Globals - some of the important settings that a beginner should be concerned with.

    Saying Goodbye
    Well.... saying goodbye.

Everyone needs to rejoice that issue #2 is now complete This CD took 16 hours to complete - it was a VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY long day for me and those helping.

You will get the new UI with this issue.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

    FINAL NOTE:

This is NOT the thread for questions. Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Buzz

Will a showering of praise be okay?

Thanks a million for what you and the team behind 3dbuzz.com are doing. With crap such as Brilliant Digital, Bonzi Buddy and a million other annoying advertising schemes, I had just about given up on net. Thanks for restoring my faith in the inter-web again. It's good to see projects like this.

    Talking THANK YOU

Its a great day to be learning Maya. I wish to thank you Buzz for all your hard work. I look foward to seeing and learning from it. I know I will have to wait a while since I have not posted as much as everyone else and I have yet to have time to send in my 100 cd contribution. Soon I hope to get to town and mail them. I wait with all the glee of a young boy the night before x-mas.
    Thank you again.

    Donny

Sounds fantastic! I really appreciate all the work 3dbuzz is doing for the digital art community. The tutorials help lots, and videos even more useful. They show you things that tutorials can never show you. Thanks again
