    Welcome to the new Max FAQ. If you are looking for the old FAQ sticky written by Gaz you can find it right here.
    This FAQ is a work in progress. I am happy to admit that I am not a native 3ds Max user, so mistakes are likely to happen. If you spot any blatant errors feel free to point them out to me. For any kind of feedback you may use this thread.

    Delete the 3dsmax.ini file from the Max directory and restart Max.

    Where do I find the 3dsmax.ini file in newer version of 3ds Max?
    Up until Max 9 the 3dsmax.ini was stored in the Max root directory. With Max 9 things have changed. To find the 3dsmax.ini file you will need to check the MaxData directory. Customize > System Paths > MaxData.

    My Target Weld has stopped working
    Make sure that your threshold is set high enough. The threshold setting can be changed in the unlabeled box next to the “selected” button. You won't be able to weld an editable poly's vertices if there are two faces that will be stuck facing each other after the weld.

    Why can’t I change my object selection?
    Press Spacebar to toggle “Selection Lock”.

    Why is my viewport disabled?
    Press D to enable your viewport.
