Refrencing lines in a text file

I am creating a program that works with the periodic table, rather than declaring each element as a member of an array. Is there a way I can refrence an external text file and declare that each line in it is an array item?

    Thanks

You could have the entire periodic table in a file, read the file at runtime and store everything into an array.

The only way to avoid a huge array in memory would be to open the file when you need information, extract just what you need, and then close it.
