NASA takes pic of flag on the moon!!

Quote:

Hurrr durrrrr if we went to the moon why don't NASA scientists take pictures of the flag and other landing sites durrrrrr herp der hurrrrr.
NASA, finally tired of taking conspiracy theorists crap, have released this image today.

Granted, this won't stop all the Moon Landing Nut Jobs out there, because they won't be satisfied until they are in a space suit standing next to the damn thing, and even then they'll start shouting "NASA put it there minutes before I got here!"

Like my father once told me when my older brother set his arm on fire "You can't cure stupid."

Aside from the conspiracy theory debunking, this is actually a pretty cool image. As far as I know, this is the very first image of the flag on the moon since we planted it back in 69'.

Edit: Is it just me, or have there been an insane amount of Space news articles lately? I think NASA is building up to something big. Or, they are pulling out all the stops to try and get more funding.

Yeah, I think the new administrations has boosted NASA's morale/drive a little. Which is great, cos space is cool.

It'd be great if they could point a super-duper hi-res camera at the flag.

elevating is an unknown quantity at this point
They have to retire the Shuttles in a couple years so they need to boost people to help support the new Aries they have going or we won't be going to space for awhile

The very same people that don't believe we landed on the moon are simply going to pawn-off this picture as another NASA hoax.

While I think the pic is cool as hell - simply because we are able to zoom-in that much on such a small object on the moon, but at the same time I also find it a waste of time having to pander to these people. It's like those idiots that don't believe in Evolution... we shouldn't have to waste time and money to try to change their boned-headed minds because when you show them more evidence, they will just come out with more excuses as to why not to believe.

The LRO wasn't sent to the moon to pander to moon landing conspiracy theorists. It was sent there to map the entire moon in high resolution, for the (presumed) future return to the place. The fact that we get images of the Apollo landing sites is a nice side effect of mapping the moon's surface, but it wasn't the goal.

I understand that it wasn't the goal - that would be one messed-up goal... but I think there is little denying that this particular news article was aimed right at the moon conspiracy people.

Apollo 11 may have been faked, however I'm sure the other ones were real.
