It seems the rise of social-networking sites like Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook are leaving surfers too distracted to even look up porn, with experts arguing the rise of social networking is killing the online porn business.

Just like VHS, you could argue the e-commerce business was built on the back of the porn industry, as for a long time it was the only thing sold on the internet before other products and services became popular.

The organiser of the Dublin Web Summit which takes place this week Paddy Cosgrve pointed to research by Bill Tancer, general manager of global research at Hitwise and columnist for Time magazine, which has found that for the first in the internet's history, pornography has been surpassed as the single biggest online activity.

Social networking at the forefront

Social networking has taken centre stage, said Tancer. The study also found that 80pc of companies in the US use LinkedIn as a primary tool to find employees.

“As social-networking traffic has increased, visits to porn sites have decreased,” Tancer said, pointing to his research which suggests that the 18-24-year-old age group are searching less for porn.

“My theory is that young users spend so much time on social networks that they don't have time to look at adult sites,” Tancer said.

I wonder if this guy knows what the main function of windows is. I mean, the entire OS is designed around and named for opening several windows at once. people know how to Multitask. My personal theory is that people are starting to go less and less to porn sites because they know how to use uTorrent.

Yeah it's been a rather subtle change, when I was 8 years old, I could fight with my friends and they would be able to hold their own. But now 20 years later, when i fight with an 8 year old I can totally kick their ass! What the hell is up with that?

I'm just gonna take a guess at this one but I think it's because the people who have been watching porn day in and day out for the last 6-10 years no longer think porn is all that great. More then likely porn has become boring to them and now whenever they watch it they just feel like a big loser because they are not aroused nor satisfied by it and porn only reminds them of what they don't have.

Sadly the internet made porn free and too easy to accsess for a large population of boys. Now however many years later porn has become boring and these boys, now men, are alone, unhappy and asking themselves what happened to their social/sex life. Why do they still watch porn even when it makes them unhappy. Why are they so horrible at talking to woman and why did they never have even one girl friend growing up?

I guess the answer lies in that fact that they chose the easy option over the harder option and now they are paying the price for their actions. Logically a lot of them have moved to social networking out of shear desperation to try and get back some of the time they past up. Unfortunately the damage is done. Not only are these men emotional and maybe physical wrecks that no woman would even consider boyfriend material but their Libido is shot and they don't have the willpower to even try and meet woman. Will see how this all turns out but my guess is that if I'm right we will see a heavy rise in suicide rates in the near future as a lot of these men just give up.

Man, being a basement dweller really sucks.
