Houdini in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Learn how Sony Pictures Imageworks used Houdini to create a food-based Destruction Pipeline for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs:

Thumbs up Excellent!

Great article.

My favorite quote:
"Rarely do we find ourselves getting into a situation where we have to start a shot over in Houdini.”

Last month I attended a talk with Chris Williams, Lead Character Animator on Cloudy. Multiple times he mentioned how amazed he was at the effects that were pulled off and how well they integrated into the character (Maya) pipeline. The back and forth seemed relatively smooth with FX (especially when having characters walk & bounce on Jello.

My favorite moments of Chris's talk, was when he would stare down as his paper or off into space and say, "I really can't believe we finished this film.". Considering how FX heavy the film was... well... Houdini being in the pipeline sure explains a lot.
