The Barkies

I discovered a little piece of history I hadn't heard of today. On the special features of "The Broadway Melody of 1929" I found a little short called "Dogway Melody." I watched it and found it to be a short film produced by MGM starring an all-dog cast with human voice-overs.

I did a little research and found out that MGM actually produced a series of these Dogville Shorts between 1929 and 1931 all of them spoofing recent MGM films. Among them being Dogway Melody, All Quiet on the Canine Front, Who Killed Rover (a detective spoof), and College Hounds (a spoof of football movies).

It's very funny and surprisingly well done.

You can see Dogway Melody here:

And the sock plucker's shoot! And pick a sack! Pluck a sock! And flick the plug! So I can put the p in the plucked sock, with the picked sack for ballast, and bounce it off the rubber baby buggy bumper, into the parker packard purple pewter pressure pump! Is that understood?

I remember these ... (I like old movies/musicals etc.) --- I always thought they were odd, but what the hey, right?

(p.s. I personally loved Broadway Melody of 1940 -- Astaire and Powell tap dancing Begin the Beguine ... that was magic)

anyway, thanks for the link ... pretty interesting ..
