Mech - Process Of Making It

I recently (1hr ago) started modeling a mech, so I thinked it's a good idea to create a WIP post and update it while I go along.I'm hoping to finish this cute baby and maybe create some animation similar to 3DBuzz's 3rd project at Mastering Maya:The Fundamentals.

Anyway, I just started, so there isn't much to be seen, just a toe!

More updates soon!

Well I like that mech!I got an idea to start modeling it, way back when I was playing Dawn Of War 40k, as Spacemarine, it was my favourite unit for attacking, but way then, I couldn't handle such a big project, back then a animation such talented ball make me proud

Looking good so far!
Do you have a sketch or some pictures you're working from, and if so could you show it/them?

It would be easier to comment if you gave an idea of where you're going with it.
Also, I don't know if it's on purpose or you haven't gotten to the part of sorting your smoothing groups out yet, facets are all over the place

Hi waffenwars,
Here are a few images that I'm using as reference!

Ref #1
Ref #2
Ref #3
Ref #4
Ref #5
Ref #6
Ref #7
Ref #8
Ref #9
Ref #10

I still haven't decided what of these will mine be (pointed finger on it), but I'm sure once I made "simple" shape of, it can be easily modified.

As considering my plan, well I'd like to see some shooting, like battle between 2 different mechs or like big garage where Dreadnough practise shooting, eh!

Also as answer to your question "what about smoothing?" well that also depends, because there are a lot of meches, some are just mechanicals, while others are a bit of cartoon/caricature.I plan on making a mechanicals first (so no smoothing for long time) and then at the end I might transform it to a cartoon one.

Cheers
-Stefan

Could you post a close up render of the piston area in the middle, just to see more detail in that area. From the pixs you posted so far, it is coming together nicely!
