Are you sure it's the exact same bundle, with all the binaries included?
Are you working in an entirely clean directory, i.e. you didn't just copy the new source code into the old build directory you were already using? Are you building in a clean login session, i.e. you have quit Terminal, or logged out and then logged in again, since the old build attempt? Scons probably sets environment variables in the shell and possibly only resets them if they are not already set to a value. If you're still in the same session, it could explain why it might be looking for libraries in the wrong place.

I'm downloading the exact same bundle... I started in a entirely clean and different directory, and I've restarted my session (quit terminal, then start it back up again... even restarted my computer)

Hmm. Well, obviously something's different. It's just a matter of narrowing it down. I wonder if you forgot (or thought you didn't need to redo) one of the steps in the build instructions, like running the configure script or something.
The question is: Why did Scons know where the OpenAL library was the first time, and not this time, if it's the same package? If it doesn't automatically look in the folder where the precompiled binaries are stored, and you didn't edit the scons files to tell it where they were...maybe it never built Blender the first time, as you suspected. I guess I'll download the latest source tonight after work and try to do a build myself.

Well... either way... I have given up... I've tried everything I can think of... and I can't get it...
I think I'll just wait for someone else to compile it. ![]() I've wasted 3 days trying to do it when I could've (and should've) been studying for school.

Yes, if you're frustrated, it's good to take a break, especially if you need to study--finals are coming up if you're a college student.
It's good experience learning to deal with the problems of building software from source, so come back to it when you're ready to tackle it again. ETA: I just re-read your first post. Were you building from source because there is no Snow Leopard binary available? Were you having trouble with the regular Mac release of Blender? I thought you just wanted to be able to build from source for the experience, and to have access to the latest features only available in source.

Yeah, I wanted a 32-bit version of the latest source (rev. 24257 or higher) because it supposedly supports multi-threading...
Right now there is only a 64-bit version. |
