Students suspended for racy slumber party pics
What is the world coming to when a couple of high school girls can't even get together and have a slumber party without the fear of the man finding out what craziness went on? Ok, so maybe they shouldn't have posted pics of it on MySpace. Maybe. But still. If we start cracking down on every little thing girls do outside of school because it may not be "appropriate" according to some administrator, how can we possibly expect Joe Francis to make a living in this world. Won't girls cease to go wild? I think I speak for everyone when I say a world without girls going wild is not a world I want to live in!
Ok, enough of my silly rant. Real story here: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/n...le-lawsuit.ars The moral of the story is be careful what you post on the internet...someone is always watching. |

I find Myspace's struggle for relevancy very amusing. But apparently people are keeping it alive since facebook doesn't allow them to destroy the eyesight and eardrums of everyone that visits their page.
As to the story, yes this is getting a little out of hand these days. There seems to be no division between personal and public life anymore... and yes even though you may decide to post 'inappropriate' pictures or writings out in public, there is still a line between personal and private life I think. But since 'the man' is ignoring that line, unfortunately the only thing you can do is try to be more anonymous with what you do online and maybe just don't post stuff like this where it is accessible by anyone and everyone, just people you give access to. |

It shouldn't be an issue at all... the school should be charged for harassment seeing as these parties were "privately" hidden on a website that has no relationship with the school. Said party took place during the summer vacation... it's like being suspended for being charged for drunk driving during the summer months. No... wait... it's not even comparable to that since presumably what they were up to wasn't even criminally negligent.

This is absolutely ridiculous.
This was not a school function, the pics were not posted on a school-related computer and they weren't hosted on a school server. What someone does in their private time - as long as it doesn't hurt anyone - is their business... and actually a school authority figure that thinks it is there right to spy on their student's activities after-hours should be the one that gets in trouble, not the other way around. |

True, and why are school officials looking at photos of students anyway, let alone summer vacation photos? That's even more disturbing.

Yep. What happens out of school is the responsibility of the parents, not the School.

I agree. I think it is ridiculous. Who you are outside of work or school does not define who you are at work or school.

There HAS to be something more about this than meets the eye.
Perhaps it was not the pictures posted on MySpace so much as how they wound up on the principal's desk. If they wind up there, then CLEARLY they got out. |
