    Update from Buzz - August 20, 2010

    Hello Everyone,

First off, let me apologize for my sudden absence from Facebook, Twitter, and even 3D Buzz. I didn’t mean to disappear for as long as I have, but when you get wrapped up so deeply in a project, sometimes time just slips by without notice. Allow me just a moment to give you all a brief update on everything that’s been going on over the last few weeks.

As many of you know, the main project that’s been dominating my time is the MMO course that we’re currently developing here at 3D Buzz. Specifically, I’ve been working on the tech demo version of our MMO game. A few months back, the development team consisted of Jeff, Lee, and me. However, with Jeff having moved on to work with Epic Games, and Lee’s escalating commitment to his current day job, I have been forced to take up the slack. This leaves me as the primary coder for the project right now.

That in itself would be daunting enough, but couple that with the fact that when things do go wrong, I’m generally forced to have to dig through and decipher thousands of lines of code, much of which was developed by two separate and absent developers. Naturally, this causes a few setbacks. To counteract this, and because I don’t want this course to be delayed until sometime next year, I have engaged in one of the most rigorous and difficult work schedules I’ve ever had in my life. Which is saying something; my work schedule is traditionally pretty hectic anyway.

I had planned to begin recording the MMO class this week, documenting some of the initial design meetings and discussion on how the final game would be shaping up. Unfortunately, I’m just not yet where I want to be for those recordings to take place. However, this week has seen some very exciting developments. We’ve been able to run some pretty thorough tests with several people and are seeing a much more stable MMO framework than we've previously seen. We should be opening up public testing once again very soon, hopefully as early as next week. For those of you who have taken part in our previous tests, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how far it has come over the past few weeks. For a mere tech demo, it’s actually starting to feel like a fully functional MMO.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this. With any luck, I’ll be returning to my “mostly normal” schedule very soon, once we get these final hurdles out of the way and can begin work on the actual MMO. At that point, I’m sure you’ll be seeing me more often.

Before I go, I wanted to send out a special thanks to those of you who have written me to check up on my status or to just see how I’m doing. I really do appreciate you taking the time to drop by and see how things are going, even though I don’t always get around to answering everybody right away.

Cheers, Everyone! I’ll talk to you again real soon.

    Sincerely,

    Buzz

It's actually saying something when you state that you "have engaged in one of the most rigorous and difficult work schedules I’ve ever had in my life." I've been around for a lot of 24 hour shifts, and seen how hardcore you dive into a project. Just a word of warning man, don't push yourself too hard, I know you like to try and exceed your boundaries, but remember to try and walk around and take a break every few hours. Don't forget to eat, thats happened a couple of times.

If you need anything from me, give me a holler, my schedule is cleared for the next 2 weeks.
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start.

Oh man, I decided, against my better judgment, to check out chat roulette once. Five videos of solo manual sex involving men in, I decided that the entire platform has degraded into something far different from what I'm sure the initial goal was

Anyhow, Jason, you're awesome and hope to see you on the radio show here in a few minutes

Hi Jason, it’s really kind of you to take the time out of your busy schedule to make this post so thank you for the update.

I am sorry to hear that you are now a lone writing this MMO. But please for the love of god stop pushing yourself so hard. You know if you continue to do that you will make yourself ill.

I know that there are people on here that want this course yesterday as I am one of them. But would rather wait longer and know that you are looking after your health. Than have it now and find out you made yourself ill so please take care my friend.

Well I’ve been on more than a few project binges my self but I don’t think of it as work. More like an addiction to doing something you love to do. Like eating vast quantities of ice cream and you just don’t know when to put the spoon down and you know your going to pay for it in the morning.

On behalf of WOB, (World Of Buzz), I thank you for being you. I am -1 when it comes to what you guys do but today I watched the UNITY standards videos and ++ my self to 0 which is a good start I guess. I also created this http://www.mediafire.com/file/ddoe5i...SimpleGame.rar (Not Buzz style) The main differences are that if an Enemy collides with Player both explode, if the score of player > 100 the minspeed and maxspeed are set to from 4 to 10, missing an enemy will let you lose a 100 points and when you reach 1000 well you go to Level 2. In Level 2, you get a duplicate of Player1 which as said does what you do but moves in the opposite direction of your motion. You get a bonus power up in lives and score, If the player enemy reaches -300 then he looses or when your score is greater than 10000 his scores decreases by 100 every 30 seconds and goes kaboom when it reaches -300. Again this my version of "casual" I hope to see you play Level 2 with Zack alongside lol

Thank you Jason for what you do and I will try to reach that 1 soon.

    P.S. Pro series expected date?
