Hello Everyone,
First off, let me apologize for my sudden absence from Facebook, Twitter, and even 3D Buzz. I didn’t mean to disappear for as long as I have, but when you get wrapped up so deeply in a project, sometimes time just slips by without notice. Allow me just a moment to give you all a brief update on everything that’s been going on over the last few weeks.
As many of you know, the main project that’s been dominating my time is the MMO course that we’re currently developing here at 3D Buzz. Specifically, I’ve been working on the tech demo version of our MMO game. A few months back, the development team consisted of Jeff, Lee, and me. However, with Jeff having moved on to work with Epic Games, and Lee’s escalating commitment to his current day job, I have been forced to take up the slack. This leaves me as the primary coder for the project right now.
That in itself would be daunting enough, but couple that with the fact that when things do go wrong, I’m generally forced to have to dig through and decipher thousands of lines of code, much of which was developed by two separate and absent developers. Naturally, this causes a few setbacks. To counteract this, and because I don’t want this course to be delayed until sometime next year, I have engaged in one of the most rigorous and difficult work schedules I’ve ever had in my life. Which is saying something; my work schedule is traditionally pretty hectic anyway.
I had planned to begin recording the MMO class this week, documenting some of the initial design meetings and discussion on how the final game would be shaping up. Unfortunately, I’m just not yet where I want to be for those recordings to take place. However, this week has seen some very exciting developments. We’ve been able to run some pretty thorough tests with several people and are seeing a much more stable MMO framework than we've previously seen. We should be opening up public testing once again very soon, hopefully as early as next week. For those of you who have taken part in our previous tests, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how far it has come over the past few weeks. For a mere tech demo, it’s actually starting to feel like a fully functional MMO.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this. With any luck, I’ll be returning to my “mostly normal” schedule very soon, once we get these final hurdles out of the way and can begin work on the actual MMO. At that point, I’m sure you’ll be seeing me more often.
Before I go, I wanted to send out a special thanks to those of you who have written me to check up on my status or to just see how I’m doing. I really do appreciate you taking the time to drop by and see how things are going, even though I don’t always get around to answering everybody right away.
Cheers, Everyone! I’ll talk to you again real soon.
Sincerely,
Buzz
