Another little update to show the newest developments on the AT-PT..
Went through a couple of idea's before i settled on the final design of connecting the piece between the Gun-Ball and the barrels..
Decided that a "Bolted-On" look would be the best so that's what it's ended up to be.
Handles and foot-step pieces are now in place, so now it's possible to get into the thing
.
Also modded the Granade launcher front.. found it to be too long and complicated, looks better this way (or so i think anyways
)
Swung the Gun around to give a little bit more of an action shot this time.. makes a change from everything straight
.
Here's the renders.. C&C welcome as usual..

Also an underside shot to show some of the bits that have been happening there now i've mirrored the beastiee

The bolt-on plate looks cool, however IMO is out of place with the rest of the model. perhaps instead of the small plate between the barrels 4 bolt heads for mounting would be suffient (less polys too), plus the bolt-on plate will in theory limit right/left motion, that is unless allowed to recess under the ball housing.
About the foot holds, the ref art posted elsewhere is just a L-hook, and simplfies the lines and really only 1 rung is needed for that extra boost.
Regards to the concussion grenade launcher, some verticle motion is advised, for targetting enemies underfoot as well as lobbing rounds at a distance elevation needs to be adjusted up/down, while aiming R/L with the vehicle is cool as to limit spamming.
Needs another armor plate to shield the launcher, looks vulnerable ATM.
Looking awesome! now where's the strut behing the accordian shin bits?

Assuming that your looking at the same Reference picture that i have (and i think it's the only one
) it's fairly lacking in a lot of area's which is why i have tended to break away with some pieces and just use a little of my strange imagination
For example:
The bolt-on plate looks cool, however IMO is out of place with the rest of the model. perhaps instead of the small plate between the barrels 4 bolt heads for mounting would be suffient (less polys too), plus the bolt-on plate will in theory limit right/left motion, that is unless allowed to recess under the ball housing.
Agreed.. the plate is'nt even on the ball-mount, only a strange shape visible in the front view of something which does'nt match up with anything in the side view ??
On the Ref Pics, there's not even anything joining the barrels to the Ball-mount, but even you thought there should be by saying "cover/install plate that joins the two barrels in the ball gun mount." which i was and still am complete in aggreement with, it just LOOKS better..
And, having added that piece, i missed some kind of mounting bolts, so just made a plate to stick it to the Ball-mount.. But true.. it reduces the angle through which the ball can turn.. maybe best to take that out indeed.. (my son agrees with you too
)
And this piece:
About the foot holds, the ref art posted elsewhere is just a L-hook, and simplfies the lines and really only 1 rung is needed for that extra boost.
Yeah.. you got me there..
the similarity you suggested to getting into a "big rig" kinda threw me into something more substantial that the little "L" piece thats on the Ref Picture... dont know what to do with that at the moment... so i will think about that..
And finally:
Regards to the concussion grenade launcher, some verticle motion is advised, for targetting enemies underfoot as well as lobbing rounds at a distance elevation needs to be adjusted up/down, while aiming R/L with the vehicle is cool as to limit spamming.

There's no indication in the Ref pictures to give the idea that the Granade launcher can move.. (at least not where i'm sitting
).
I guueessss, that the front view could suggest a round hub where the barrel juts out from.?? but there's nothing in the side view to back that theory up unfortunately..
And another armour plate.?? there's no suggestion of that either.. i would have thought that the barrel (which is bigger that in the reference) LOOKED kinda strong and beefy enough as it is... no??
And this piece:
Looking awesome! now where's the strut behing the accordian shin bits?
Well here is something that i had overlooked
I had gone to great lenghts to achive a working strut (Aim-constraints and all that) between the bottom leg piece and the foot assembly that i had completly forgotten about the one you mentioned hahaha
Oh well.. it's not as if i thought i was finished or anything.. i'll just add that to the list of bits that need to be addressed..
Next time i will use the 3DBuzz technique.. and call it a "AT-PT LIKE vehicle".. and then i can leave it open to "free interpretation"
Again.. many thanks that you take the time to respond to my efforts, it's good to have some other critique and suggestions, i have been using my son for that the last few days since he's stuck with me in the caravan this week..
Thanks again Twrecks.. and till the next time

S'all cool.
I'm hep on the idea the RL is fixed and aims only with the AT-PT.
About the foot ladder, I'm just looking at the scale... hmm door yea, hmm rungs look too small for even a toe... a foot peg mo'better IMHO
Heck I'm liking you're doing this.
Just a rant: Star Wars walking veh's always made me think the Concept artist once drove a garbage truck, and the model maker could only make straight cuts in flat styrene sheet.
I hope Jeff comes through with the walker code soon. Though prolly not before phase2 of the MSUC

sweet modeling, the only thing that bothers me is that the images has no anti aliasing. but its not a big deal.

Thanks... Glad you like..
Anti aliasing ?? these are just quick screen shot captures from the render window (also resized to fit the forum better) and not meant to be quality results, there just for a WIP thread.
