So a couple weeks ago i started revising it, I ended up cutting it down by about 300k faces. The tank was initially built when I was in college and it was not the done very efficiently. Render times were a nightmare. Anyway I have rebuilt a lot of it and retextured. I am still working on lighting, one of my weak points I am trying to get better at. But let me know what you think.

I started on this model a while back... then some work came in and it got put on ice... now I'm looking for work again, so I've got some time to put into this. My goal is to create a final image that looks realistic but holds true to the shapes of the cartoon characters. I want to get the characters to look like they came straight from the cartoon, but to texture them with realistic skin (or fur) and render it out to a stereoscopic true 3D image.

Here's what I've got so far;

Modeling Started

Rough Characters finished

Beginning to pose

I ran into a problem with the skinning while trying to pose Perry. Usually I will pose a character, then edit the envelops and check to see if it's working properly by watching the mesh slide into place when I adjust the values (for envelopes or vert weights). For some reason, Perry's skin decided it didn't want to play anymore (any suggestions on how to resolve this would be appreciated).

I set the models aside yesterday and started to sketch out the inside of Doofenshmirtz's place. The sketch was really rough, but helped frame up the space roughly.

I started building the set and now I've got a lot of 'greebling' to do to get the place looking right, but I think I'm on the right track.

I'm still not happy with the character poses... too lifeless and lacking energy. I'm toy with that once I've had a chance to figure out what's going on with my Perry skinning situation. Once the character meshes are finished in Max, I'm thinking to take them into ZBrush to clean them up, add in the wrinkles in the fabric, and work on the textures.

Feedback and crits appreciated.

I actually wound up modelling most of this in SolidWorks, and then did a couple details in Maya.
I took some measurements from an M4 (The AR-15 was in the other room) to make sure that the size would be something comfortable to use. My intent was originally to design something that looked like a modern design around future tech, but it wound up instead looking more like a 60's Star Trek prop.

Nevertheless, I do consider this model to be basically done, pending any recommendations or suggestions, so I would like some feedback.

Hi all, I'm modelling a DC-15A to put into the Unreal Development Kit, and also to stave off boredom (because I sometimes get bored working on other things, so having a few available projects save me from that). I know there's not much detail yet, but it's starting to take shape. This is just the high poly model. Low poly to come after lol. I've been working on this on and off for about 2 days (less than an hour and a half per session and only a few sessions), created in Maya.

For those who dont know: A DC-15A is pretty much the standard Clone Trooper blaster rifle (Star Wars).

So, I want to project onto my Impreza. To do this I need a 3D model. However, I need it to fairly precisely match the actual car. This is the goal: a medium polygon model of my car that is accurate to within a few millimetres.

Impossible? Well I should also mention I had access to a Faro arm to get me off to a good start:

Here's Markus helping sample my car. Basically the Faro arm allows you to measure points with sub-millimetre precision. The only hiccup was I forgot to put the handbrake on, so the car moved slightly when I lent on the bonnet. Oh well.

Here's the resulting point cloud:

I'm now working in Maya to create curves for these, which I will then base the polygon model on.

Hello everyone!

I've been buisy creating some sort of a spaceship roughly inspired by this image:
http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/images...ades_class.png

I'm certainly not trying to recreate it exactly but I used it as a starting point and kind of a reference for the early simple geometry.

I'm very pleased with the current general shape, except for some problem areas, but I'll take care of those at some later point.

Putting detail into it is now my primary goal and I started throwing a crazy amount of decorations on the topmost part already. They all should in the end look like usefull parts doing some strange but vitally important stuff, I had "Sensor Array" in mind while creating most of them.

I'm however not sure about the antennas, I have trouble finding a matching style for them.
Also the lighting is currently far from being final, so best ignore it (however the shadows look kind of nice imho)

Edit:
the new attachment system is really scary for me ;-)
Any way to get thumbnails in the post?

Game Assets for Unity

For the last month or so I have been working on creating a game in Unity and have been modelling out assets. It's been taking a long time to do so, because while I know each of the steps: modelling, uv unwrapping, texturing, bringing the complete model into a game, I have never done it from start to finish and my experience with making game models in general has been limited.

I think I spent at least a couple of weeks looking for the best, the fastest, the most efficient way to do some of these steps until I just decided to just go in, make the mistakes and actually get it done: hopefully someone will be able to point anything wrong out. So, here is the result of my first complete game model.

The full model is 2,392 triangles. I created a high-poly version that stands at around 37,000 triangles with the idea that I was going to bake a normal map from it and throw that on the model. However I completely ballsed up the normal map somehow and ended up with it looking even uglier than before.

The lamp alone is 1/3rd of the triangle count and while I could have made a decent looking low poly lamp with just one arm I liked the way this lamp looked. If anything, I'd like to increase the poly count a bit more and made everything smoother.

The working texture is a 4096x4096 colossus that gets cut down to 1024x1024 in Unity. I love being able to just work in a massive quality PSD and have Unity automatically convert and downscale it when imported. It's my first time using ambient occlusion maps to bake in to a diffuse and I still have a lot to learn about them. However they definitely improve the quality of the texture without needing to improve the quality of the artist first.

The final result. Now I just need to start making two of these every week :)

The arms are very much in the concepting stage and the hands are taken from 3d-palaces Crux tut and will be remodeled to be shorter but the overall way they work and look is the sort of thing I was after, planning on an over the shoulder weapon system too.
